Lexus specifies what each complimentary visit covers. The two visits are not the same. The first is an inspection and setup service. The second adds your first oil change and a fresh cabin air filter.

A Note on Personalized Settings

Programming Lexus Personalized Settings is a one-time complimentary service. It happens at the six-month visit. Plan around that if you want your door-lock, lighting or display preferences configured by a technician.

Oil Change Intervals and Driving Conditions

Your engine oil and oil filter are replaced every 12 months or 10,000 miles. They are also replaced whenever the oil maintenance reminder appears, whichever comes first. Use the oil grade specified in your Owner’s Manual. Do you drive mainly on dirt or dusty roads? Lexus shortens that interval to 5,000 miles or six months, and adds several inspection items under those special operating conditions. Wheel alignment is not part of either complimentary visit.

What Prepaid Plans Cover

Plans offered through Lexus Financial Services cover oil and filter changes, multi-point inspections and tire rotations. They also cover the additional items listed in the Scheduled Maintenance Log of your Lexus Warranty and Services Guide. Depending on the plan, the major interval services may be covered too. Those fall at 15,000, 30,000, 45,000 miles and beyond.

Eligibility and Payment

Eligibility depends on your odometer reading when you enroll. Plans can be arranged at the time of purchase or lease, subject to credit approval. You can also add one later while your vehicle still qualifies. Prepaid maintenance plans are optional, are cancellable under the terms of the agreement, and are not required to obtain credit. Does complimentary maintenance carry over if I buy a used Lexus?

Lexus warranty coverage transfers automatically and at no cost to subsequent owners. The two complimentary services are tied to the vehicle’s in-service date. The first falls at six months or 5,000 miles. The second falls at 12 months or 10,000 miles. Whether a service is still available depends on where the vehicle sits against those limits. Our service advisors can check what is still open on your specific vehicle.

How long does a Lexus hybrid battery last, and is it covered?

Lexus covers the hybrid battery for 10 years from the date of first use or 150,000 miles, whichever comes first. This applies to Lexus hybrid, plug-in hybrid and fuel cell vehicles from model year 2020 onward. Coverage is subject to the terms of the New Vehicle Limited Warranty.

How often does the smart key battery need to be replaced?

The Lexus scheduled maintenance chart calls for smart key battery replacement every 15,000 miles. That means the 15,000, 30,000 and 45,000-mile visits and onward. At the standard six-month service cadence, that works out to roughly every 18 months. Your Owner’s Manual specifies the battery type for your key.

Can I use conventional oil instead of synthetic in my Lexus?

Use the oil grade specified in your Owner’s Manual for your engine. Lexus will not deny a warranty claim solely because you had service performed elsewhere. However, damage or failures caused by using fluids other than those specified are not covered.

Are wheel alignments included in the complimentary maintenance visits?

No. The complimentary visits cover tire rotation and inspections rather than alignment. Wheel alignment and wheel balancing are covered separately under the New Vehicle Limited Warranty. That coverage runs 12 months or 12,000 miles, whichever comes first. If our technicians find uneven tread wear during an inspection, they will recommend an alignment.
